Give The Gift of Sewing Camp Over Vacation - Dec. 29th ,30th

"Make it Sew" Sewing Vacation Workshops at The Maker Mill Dec. 29th & 30th

Join sewing teacher Carrie Midura of Carrie + Fitz for three days of fashion forward sewing! Each day will feature a different project that participants will design, sew, and be able to wear home at the end of the workshop. Each day will include breaks for fashion & fabric chats, special design activities, and lunch. The focus of these workshops is on being the designer and making creative ideas a reality through sewing and fashion. A basic familiarity with sewing machines is helpful, but not necessary, and students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machines if possible.

Note: Students may also bring their own fabrics or purchase materials ($10-$15 per day) from instructor. Additional fabrics, notions, and trimming for embellishments and design activities are included in the cost of the workshop.

Project 1: Up-cycled & embellished designer t-shirt dress (2 adult XL t-shirts or $10 materials fee)

December 30th
Project 2: Fringed blanket poncho & winter accessories (1.5 yds fabric or $10 materials fee)

Time:

  • Full Day: 8:30am - 5:00pm (9am - 4pm Sewing Time)

Junior FIRST® LEGO® League

Junior FIRST® LEGO® League captures young children's curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of science and technology.

Skills Learned: Children are able to solve unusual and stimulating problems through creativity, persistence, learned skills, and cooperation. FLL empowers students to be more successful problem solvers in their own lives and in future problem solving situations.

Junior FIRST® LEGO® League teams are about to learn that throwing something in the trash is only the beginning.  In the 2015-2016 WASTE WISE Challenge, over 34,500 children ages 6 to 9 from 18 countries will look at trash in a whole new way.  From reducing, to reusing, to recycling, and beyond, find out what making trash really means.  Prepare to become Waste Wise!

Each year, Junior FIRST LEGO League (Jr.FLL®) presents a new and exciting Challenge to ignite the creativity of young children.  While exploring the real-world theme, teams will learn about simple machines as they build a model made of LEGO® elements with a motorized part.  They will also learn to present information through a Show Me Poster.  Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the Jr.FLL signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.
